  1. The Aftermath The world after the Great Depression

  2. What we learned from it… • Unemployment leads to anger: • Scapegoats: foreigners, people of different religions and government officials. • Violence: The Regina riots.

  3. What we learned from it… • A depression (like any recession) needs time to correct itself. • In the meantime, lowering prices, work projects (like the hoover dam) and entertainment are great ways to help people through tough times.

  4. What we learned from it… • Sometimes in a desperate attempt to distract people, we go too far. • The Dionne Quintuplets (the first ever to survive) became a ‘miracle’ story in the worst year of the depression.

  5. ..continued • They were paraded like circus animals and generated hundreds of millions of dollars but it lead to the destruction of their family and the mental health of the children.

  6. The Great Depression ends.. • After the crash, things got steadily worse for the next five years, bottoming out in 1934. • In 1935, things began to turn around but slowly. • The damage however, had already been done. • All around the world, stable, long-standing governments had been replaced by radicals.
