  1. Use Visual Signaling Techniques Warrior Training Tasks 9

  2. Sub Task Army Warrior Task 071-326-0608 Use Visual Signaling Techniques

  3. Agenda Next Page will contain the agenda for the instruction • References • Terminal Learning Objective • Task, Conditions, & Standards • Task Steps & Performance Measures • Summary • Questions

  4. Administrative Data • Cell phones/pagers • Risk assessment (low) • Environmental conditions (none) • Safety requirements (none) Next Page will contain Administration Data, make sure hard copy risk assessment is in the training Binder

  5. Terminal Learning Objective Task: Use Visual Signaling Techniques 071-326-0608 Conditions: Given a requirement to use visual signals while mounted. Standards: Give the proper procedures for each required action. Next Page will contain the TLO for the first subtask

  6. Performance Steps 1. Ensure the Soldiers you are signaling can see you. 2.Perform the visual signals for combat formations, battle drills, and movement techniques as follows: a. Perform formation signals coil and herringbone:

  7. Coil Raise one arm above the head and rotate it in a small circle.

  8. Herringbone Extend the arms parallel to the ground. Bend the arms until the forearms are perpendicular. Repeat.

  9. Performance Steps (cont.) b.Contact left, contact right, action right, action left, action front (right, left, or rear), air attack, and nuclear, biological, or chemical attack:

  10. CONTACT LEFT Extend the LEFT arm parallel to the ground, bend the arm until the forearm is perpendicular. Repeat. CONTACT RIGHT Extend your RIGHT arm parallel to the ground, bend the arm until the forearm is perpendicular. Repeat.

  11. Action Right Action Left Extend both arms parallel. Raise your RIGHT arm until it is overhead. Repeat. Extend both arms parallel. Raise your LEFT arm until it is overhead. Repeat.

  12. Action Front (LEFT, RIGHT OR REAR), FIGHT ON FOOT, OR ASSAULT FIRE (DISMOUNTED TROOPS).

  13. AIR ATTACK Bend the arms with forearms at 45-degree angle. The forearms are crossed. Repeat.

  14. NUCLEAR, BIOLOGICAL, OR CHEMICAL ATTACK

  15. Performance Steps (cont.) c. Perform the following movement technique signals: 1.Traveling 2.Traveling Over-watch 3. Bounding Over-watch

  16. Traveling Extend the arm overhead and swing it in a circle from the shoulder.

  17. Traveling Over-watch Extend both arms and raise them up and down.

  18. Bounding Over-watch: Cover My Move! Extend one arm to a 45-degree angle. Bend the arm and tap the helmet. Repeat.

  19. Performance Steps (cont.) d. Perform Vehicle Signals. • Move to the left • Move to the right • Move forward • Attention • I am ready / ready to move. • Mount • Disregard previous command. • I do not understand

  20. Move to Left

  21. Move to Right Extend arm to the right and raise it up and down.

  22. Move Forward Move the hands and forearms backward and for- ward, palms toward the chest.

  23. Attention!! Extend the arm sideways, slightly above the horizontal; palm to the front; wave the arm to and from the head several times.

  24. I Am Ready, or Ready to Move, Are you Ready?

  25. MOUNT Two or three movements up- ward with the open hand, palm uppermost.

  26. Disregard Previous Command or As You Were Raise both arms and cross wrists above the head, palms to the front.

  27. I Do Not Understand Extend both arms horizontally to the sides and then bend your arms at the elbow so that your hands move across your face, one above the other. Palms should face out.

  28. Performance Steps (cont.) d. Perform Vehicle Signals. (cont.) 9. Start engine / prepare to move 10. Halt / stop 11. Increase speed 12. Advance 13. Open up / close up 14. (make a) right or left turn 15. Slow down 16. Move in reverse

  29. Start Engine, or Prepare to Move DAY NIGHT Simulate cranking of the engines by moving the arm, with the fist, in a circular motion at waist level. Move a light to describe a horizontal figure 8 in a vertical plane in front of the body.

  30. HALT or STOP Raise the hand upward to the full extent of the arm, palm to the front. Hold that position until the signal is understood. NIGHT DAY Move a light horizontally back and forth several times across the path of approaching traffic to stop vehicles. Use the same signal to stop engines.

  31. Increase Speed Move a light vertically several times in front of the body. DAY NIGHT Raise the fist to shoulder level; thrust the fist upward the full extent of the arm and back to shoulder level (rapidly) several times.

  32. Advance or Move Out

  33. OPEN UP Extend the arms overhead, palms inward, then slowly lower arms to a horizontal position.

  34. CLOSE UP Extend both arms parallel to the ground, palms up, then move the arms upward and inward towards the head.

  35. Right or Left Turn DAY NIGHT Extend the arm horizontally to side, palm outward. Rotate a light to describe a circle 12 to 18 inches in diameter in the direction of the turn.

  36. Slow Down DAY Extend the arm horizontally sideward, palm to the front; wave the arm slightly downward several times. keeping the arm straight. Do not move arm above horizontal. NIGHT Hold a light at shoulder level; blink it several times toward the vehicle.

  37. Move in Reverse (For Stationary Vehicles) Hold a light at shoulder level; blink it several times toward the vehicle. DAY NIGHT Face the vehicle(s) being signaled, raise the hands to shoulder level, palms to the front. Move hands forward and backward.

  38. Performance Steps (cont.) d. Perform Vehicle Signals. (cont.) 17. Close distance between vehicles and stop 18. Stop engines 19. Dismount 20. Neutral steer 21. Stop 22. Button up / unbutton 23. Message Acknowledged

  39. Close Distance Between Vehicles and Stop Face the vehicle(s) being signaled. Extend the forearms to the front, palms in- ward and separated (width of the shoulders). Bring the palms together as the vehicle(s) approaches. The vehicle(s) must stop when the palms come together.

  40. Stop Engines Extend the arm parallel to ground, hand open, and move the arm across the body, in a throat-cutting action.

  41. Dismount Extend the arms, make two or three movements up and down, hands open towards ground.

  42. Neutral Steer (Track Vehicles) Cross the wrists at the throat; point the index finger in the direction of steer. Make a fist ot the other hand.

  43. STOP (Alternate signal to stop tracked vehicles) Clasp the hands together, palms facing, at chin level.

  44. Button Up or Unbutton For BUTTON UP, place both hands, one on top of the other, palms down, on top of the helmet. The arms are back and in same plane as the body. For UNBUTTON, give BUTTON UP signal, then separate the hands, Moving them to each side in a slicing motion; repeat.

  45. Message Acknowledged Hold the fist out with thumb up.

  46. Performance Steps (cont.) 3. Perform Flag Signals • Single signal flag • Mount • Dismount • Dismount & Assault • Assemble / Close • Move Out • Nuclear, Biological or Chemical Hazard Present.

  47. Use a Single Signal Flag *When alone, flag colors have these meaning. **In poor visibility, you can use colored chemical lights or flashlights with colored filters in place of flags.
