  4. Geography • It has rivers Isel & Drau. • It is very mountainous

  5. Culture • Since it’s near Italy, it took on some Italian and Austrian culture. • Lienz Old-Town festival during which regional crafts, authentic costumes, traditional dancing and culinary delicacies are shown

History Bruck Palace • East Tyrol was originally part of South Tyrol but was isolated from the rest of the province by the Treaty of Saint Germain (1919) following World War I. • German troops marched into Austria in 1938, and, subsequently, East Tyrol was handed over to Carinthia. • During medieval times Lienz was the seat of the Gorizia counts who cleared the valley and built lots of castles and palaces, some of which, like Bruck Palace above Lienz, are still standing today.

  7. Economy • The East Tyrol is best known for its skiing and winter sports. • It’s also known for its abundance of churches and castles.

  8. Food • Dumpings (the east tyroleanschlipfkrapfen) • filled with potato, majoram, chives, roast onion in a buckwheat and wheat pasta … served with brown butter Inside of Dumpling Dumpling

  9. Famous Person • Kiki Kogelnik. Born in Austria, she is a famous artist. Born 1935 and died of cancer in 1997 • She studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and moved to Paris then New York. • Her art consisted of brightly colored pop art
