  2. Why tax Justice?

  3. Tax havens are engaged in economic warfare against the United States We cannot go on living with tax havens. We want to put a stop to tax havens secrecy We will set out new measures to crack down on the tax havens that siphon off money from developing countries

  4. End Tax Haven Secrecy means… • Stop companies hiding their profits and avoid paying taxes in developing countries. • These measures include requiring companies to report on the profits made and taxes paid in every country in which they operate (country by country) • Automatic exchange of information between different tax jurisdictions. This would help developing countries collect the taxes they are owed.

  20. G20 Global Day of Action

  21. G20 Renew its fight against tax haven secrecy in Cannes • The G20 listing 11 tax havens that have failed to deliver on tax transparency.’. • Every G20 member agreeing to sign a multilateral convention that will allow exchange of tax information between them – and will consider making information available automatically on a voluntary basis, the gold standard in information exchange between jurisdictions. • A call from the G20 for multinational companies to be more compliant and transparent in their dealings with poor countries. • Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh warning that tax evasion and illicit finance flows have become a ‘serious’ problem and urging the G20 to take a lead on automatic information exchange. • David Cameron calling for principles to govern matters such as tax transparency and anti-corruption in the global economy. • The G20 agreeing to increase support to developing countries to counter ‘abusive transfer pricing ‘- a major profit-shifting tax dodge. • A report from Bill Gates for the summit  calling on all G20 countries to impose legally binding transparency requirements on mining and oil companies as exists now in America under the Dodd-Frank Act.

  22. Mexican presidency priorities in 2012 • Economic stability and structural reform for growth and employment. • Strengthening of financial systems and procurement of financial inclusion for economic growth. • Improve international financial architecture in a interconnected global economy. • Mitigate negative effects on price level and volatility of commodities, in particular those affecting food security. • Promote sustainable development with focus on infrastructure, energy efficiency, green growth and financing the fight against climate change.

  23. G20 petition to Mexico Dear President Calderon, We welcome the steps taken at the G20 meeting in Cannes last November to tackle global tax dodging. However, these steps were not enough to end the secrecy in tax havens which is at the heart of this problem. Most countries are losing huge sums of money from companies’ use of tax havens. According to the OECD, developing countries are losing far more through tax dodging than they receive in aid. Tax havens play a key role in making this happen, by providing the financial secrecy which allows companies to dodge taxes. That is why I am calling on you to show leadership at the G20 in 2012 and persuade fellow world leaders to End Tax Haven Secrecy. . Yours sincerely,

  25. Christian Aid visited the Mexican embassy yesterday to mark an anniversary that may have escaped most people's notice. On 9 February two years ago, Mexico wrote to the US government proposing that the two countries exchange financial information about bank accounts that would help prevent tax evasion According to GFI, Mexico has lost a staggering $872 billion over the past forty years, partly through companies shifting their profits out of the country through tax havens.
