  3. Barry's Bugle Barry’s 2009 Comrades It was not one of my better runs. I started cramping from Lion Park and it soon became apparent that I wasn’t going to have a good day. The plan was to do a ‘Father and Son’ Comrades but after Camperdown I told Noel to go ahead. He finished in 10:41:11 which considering his lack of training was a good run. The cramps were more distressing than painful. They occurred throughout the journey and mostly on the right calf and upper leg although once or twice I had the odd twinge in the left leg. From the bottom of Cowies Hill onwards, the ever presence of the accompanying ‘Bailer busses’ was most annoying and didn’t help concentration. There was ‘no way’ I was going to get in one of those busses. I also had trouble with my watch. It was slowing up during the day. ??? However, the plus factor which kept me going was the fear of failure. With 7km to go, I had 55 minutes ‘left’ and still had some doubt, but with the encouragement from all at the Sherwood YWP supporters point, I finished in 11:54:01 I apologise for not stopping at some YWP supporters spots, but I hope you understood that I had a time management problem. Some photos attached. I lost about 4kg during the run. My appearance after finishing makes me think! Cheers, Barry (616)
