Leadership And Strategic Thinking

Differences between Manager and Leader

  • Leadership does not necessarily take place within a hierarchical structure

  • of the organization

  • Manager does planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the activities of

  • subordinates

  • Leader is more concerned with communicating with, motivating, encouraging,

  • involving people

  • The two terms are often used interchangeably though.

Three types of Leadership

  • Successful Leadership- Achieves results intended by the leader

  • Effective Leader- achieves group goals and functional behaviour

  • Attempted Leadership- an individual attempts to exert leadership in the group

Leadership resides in the functions and not in a particular person.
