GFP Basics • TDM Pipe with 20+ MB/Sec capacity • Transport of all transmission words • 64B/65B encoding to encapsulate K-characters • Clumped in 67B Superblocks (incl CRC-16) • Lightweight header over group of Superblocks • Scrambling of payloads • XOR with special constant on Core Header • X^43 scrambling on remainder • NOT FC frame-based • Exception for idle insertion/removal • Client Management frames

  3. FC-BB-2 Implementation • BB Flow control flows through • Managed by connected switches • No B_Port • Message passing to convey link events • LOL, LOS via Client Management Frames • Not Operational port state if GFP/SONET failure • Messages to inform of reverse-direction or mid-path failures
