Every other day in the newspapers and channels, one sees news of fatalities on a construction site. It can be said with guarantee that maximum number of fatalities occur due to negligence while working at elevated surfaces. The workers that take care of construction activities at heights greater than four feet are supposed to use some kind of fall arrest system. This is a mandate that has been circulated by authorities in the US. Works at elevated places include works on the roofs, bridge construction, skyscraper or high-rise constructions, works on tanks and chimneys, work on towers, etc. Basically, anywhere that is higher than four feet is supposed to come under the category of a fall hazard. Fall protection mechanisms help to control damages not limited to the body of the worker in question. Such a mechanism protects those standing below too. If fall protection safety is in place and workers are making use of it, it will help to improve the quality of work. This happens because the workers are able to put in more concentration in the work they do rather than having to brace themselves for dear lives. A sense of security drives quality of work. Fall protection mechanisms help to control fatality rate of the workers of the construction contractor, which helps them in building a solid reputation in the market. Workers’ safety should never be jeopardized. They are the key elements of any project, without whom a project can never achieve completion.
