  1. Are you ready to solve some puzzles???

  2. As I show you each slide identify what all of the molecules on it have in common Raise your hand when you think you’ve got it figured out Here we go…

  3. CH3CH2CH2CH3 =Hydrogen =Carbon

  4. Answer: All are Hydrocarbons!!! They’re only made up of Hydrogen and Carbon They all have the formula CnH2n+2

  5.  C4H90H       H    OH   H        |      |     |  H - C - C - C - H        |      |     |       H     H    H =hydrogen =carbon =oxygen CH30H

  6. Answer: All are Alcohols!!! All have a hydroxy group (-OH)

  7. Answer: All are Alkynes!!! All are hydrocarbons (or substituted hydrocarbons) with a triple bond connecting two carbons.

  8. Now, try and link the molecules on the next few slides to the “families” they belong to Raise your hand when you think you’ve got it figured out Here we go…

  9. Answer: The Alkyne Family!!!

  10. =carbon =hydrogen

  11. Answer: The Hydrocarbon Family!!!

  12. H   H   H |    |  | H - C -C – C-OH |   |    | H   H   H

  13. Answer: The Alcohol Family!!!
