  1. GRACE DAY SCHOOL…ABOVE & BEYONDAbove-Average Learning Beyond The School Day Winter 2014 Program Details At-A-Glance

  2. IntelliGames 5, 6, 7, 8 The beloved family ritual of playing board games at the kitchen table or on the living-room floor lives on in the Grace universe, but with a twist via an innovative offering called IntelliGames. According to Education Week Magazine, a growing body of research is revealing the potential benefits of using board games to strengthen mathematic skills. Most parents would agree that many quality games on the market also help with fundamentals such as spelling, and hone more nuanced skills like strategy, diplomacy, risk management and reasoning. IntelliGames encompasses all this, and more! Scrabble, Pictionary, Yahtzee, Dominoes, Uno, Battleship, Cranium and Balderdash seem to vary widely in scope and theme, but all have in common numbers, words, critical thinking, fun, friendship & cooperation. And they’re ALL on the IntelliGames agenda! Play time! . Intramurals A 5, 6 The Intramural Program is destined for popularity. After all, Jason Cinelli is a wildly popular guy at 23 Cedar Shore Drive! His time-tested offering provides students a great opportunity to participate in sport activities such as basketball, volleyball and dodge ball. Skills will be developed and/or refined while lending dimension to the children’s education by stimulating interests, improving self-esteem, developing sportsmanship and cultivating an understanding of the importance of fair play – in sports and life! Students will achieve individual and team goals, and most importantly… HAVE FUN … as defined by Mr. C.

  3. Intro To Latin II 7, 8 { This offering is open to students who have completed “Introduction to Latin” } Although many consider Latin a “dead” language, 6 out of every 10 words we utter are derived from Latin – it is indeed alive and well in every conversationwe have! Latin is also a valuable prep discipline for the CHSEE , will aid students who enroll in basic high-school Romance Language courses and help expand their English language vocabulary. In this installment, 7th & 8th graders will continue to explore vocabulary with derivations, sentence structure, verb conjugation and translation… Crede quod habes, et habes! Intramurals B 3, 4 The Intramural Program is destined for popularity. After all, Jason Cinelli is a wildly popular guy at 23 Cedar Shore Drive! 4. Yoga for Kids 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Karen Corrente’s other passion, besides teaching at Grace of course, is pretty well documented. She is a dedicated yogi with meaningful instructional experience. We cant think of anyone better suited to offer kids in grades 2 through 6 the opportunity to test-drive or, in many cases, revisit this important, thousands-year old discipline . The mind/body/spirit benefits that accompany yoga are many and impart s on those who embrace it a lifelong aptitude toward the quest for peace and self awareness. Children who enroll in this program will learn and practice age-appropriate yoga postures such as Sunrise/Sunset, Tree and Butterfly. This is time well spent. Namaste. Let’s Cook! 5, 6, 7, 8 Cooking is a necessary life skill that benefits those who come to embrace and appreciate it early on. It also offers various opportunities to reinforce other elements of learning. Cooking helps cultivate math and measurement skills, encourages a dialogue about good nutrition, elevates cultural awareness, exposes students to different applications of science and art. It can even inspire the pursuit of travel and language. Julie Reilly, caterer, former restaurant manager, founder of the learning program Chefs of D’Future and self-described foodie will take her program up a notch for upper division students by exploring recipes of elevated sophistication and more diverse ingredients. Along the way they’ll learn basic cooking skills, kitchen safety and sanitation. Bon appétit!
