Address the following questions: • Group 1 – Where does the word “interest” come from and when • was it first charged on loans? • Group 2 – How was lending money for a fee opposed historically? • Group 3 – What is “usury” and the difference between “usury” and • “interest” in modern times? Include a discussion of the meaning of “shylock” • Group 4 – What connection did banking and interest rates play in • the historic European rivalries between Christians and Jews? • Group 5 – When and where were some of the highest interest • rates charged? What were the rates? • Group 6 – What is the history of a national bank in the U.S.?
