  3. What causes the seasons? • What explanations did people give for the seasons? • Misconception: a view or opinion that is incorrect because it is based on faulty thinking or understanding

  4. Your Homework: • Make a visual representation or graph of the class’s data.

  5. Reasons for Seasons • The class will be split up into 4 groups • Each group will be assigned a reading in the textbook to teach the class • You will have 7 minutes to plan for a 3 minute mini lesson. • Each group will have vocab words to explain

  6. Earth’s Orbit • Ellipse: Slightly elongated circle. • Earth’s orbit is an ellipse around the sun.

  8. Tilt of Earth’s Axis: 23.5 • Earth’s tilt is directed toward the North Star, aka: Polaris. The tilt does not change!

  10. Equinox: Spring and fall – when the sun is directly over the equator. The number of daytime and nighttime hours are the same • Equinox: equal night • Solstice: When the sun reaches its greatest distance away from the equator. Happens in the winter and summer. • Solstice: standing still
