  3. Muslims & Hindus • Muslim invaders devastated Buddhist monasteries and killed so many monks that the religion never recovered. • Hindus recognized many gods and goddesses, sacred texts. (Muslims - 1 god/text) • Hindus worshiped before statues. (Sinful for Muslims)

  4. Muslims & Hindus • Hindus had a strict caste system. (Taught the equality of all) • Hindus celebrated with religious occasions with song and dance. (Condemned by Muslims) • Muslims absorbed Hindu customs of marriage and caste ideas. • Used a new language, Urdu, combo of Persian and Hindi

  5. Muslims & Hindus • Artisans applied Persian art style to Indian subjects. • Sikhism was a blending of religious beliefs. (Hindu/Islam)

  6. Mughal India • Akbar tolerated religious beliefs of others and opened up government jobs to Hindus of all castes. • Ended tax of non-Muslims. • Used paid officials in place of hereditary office holders.

  7. Mughal India • Modernized the army • Encouraged international trade. • Introduced reforms. • Akbar’s grandson had Taj Mahal built.
