6 Priority Gaps

  • Lack of real time, updated and complete data within wider geographical coverage to allow for research and analysis to enable evaluation and forecasting risks and impacts to plan responses for better drought management

  • Need capacity building for monitoring and forecasting of drought events, risks and impacts

  • Lack or limitation of government budget commitment for research and in-depth analyses of all aspects related to drought and management of risks and impacts

  • Unclear budget allocation policy to operate and maintain the existing data acquisition and communications networks, and monitoring and analysis systems related infrastructure

  • The need to strengthen drought management related information, knowledge sharing and dissemination to stakeholders at all levels

  • Lack of coordinated policy, strategy, guidelines and action plans on drought management as part of IWRM (including policy and pricing mechanism for water conservation)
