The project • Aim: identification of the main challenges and related solutions in coordination meetings on drug trafficking cases. • Scope: Analysis of 50 drug trafficking cases registered between 01.09.2008 and 31.08.2010 with a coordination meeting organised in the same period. • Topics: • Exchange of information and coordination • Conflicts of jurisdictions • MLA requests and EAWs • Joint Investigation Teams • Controlled deliveries • Asset recovery • Third States

  3. Conclusions ACTION PLAN with 8 areas for improvement: 1. Preparation and follow up of coordination meetings 2. Solutions for handling sensitive data 3. Involvement of Europol and third States 4. Use of JITs and other coordination tools 5. Early assessment (and solution) of conflicts of jurisdiction 6. Focus on cross-border asset recovery 7. Role of Eurojust in controlled deliveries 8. Number of judicial coordination vs mere cooperation cases .

BUT: • Did the fight against drug trafficking failed until now ? • Do we need a new strategy ( integrated - why drugs – think tank )? • Development in South America ? • Government as a drug dealer ? • „ brutal „ confiscation • There is a need for more money in the fight against this crime type
