  3. Mandate • Enhance the role of the private sector as the engine of growth for poverty reduction • “A vibrant private sector – with enterprises making investments, creating jobs and improving productivity – promotes growth and creates opportunities for poor people” (MTPF 2004-2007)

UNIDO’S PSD TRIANGLE Facilitate entrepreneurship development and development of disadvantaged regions (rural, post-conflict areas) and vulnerable SME segments (women, youth) Promote improvements in the business environment (policy, regulatory and institutional framework) Promote clusters and business linkages among enterprises, between enterprises and institutions, and between large corporations and SMEs towards their integration into national and global value chains and fostering responsible business practices

Emerging trends • In 12 out of the 14 countries, activities focused on Clusters and Business Linkages approach • Increasing demand for national/regional training courses on Clusters and Business Linkages • Regional exchanges on CBL experiences • Collaboration with IADB • Projects for disadvantaged regions / youth entrepreneurship also important thematic for the region
