Quality Systems, Online Quality Learning Community (OQLC) What does OQLC mean instructionally? • Non-traditional recruitment for 3+1 associate transfer • Two courses per year, total 35 hours minimum, at BGSU • Technical leaders collaborating, improving, growing • Manufacturing, non-manufacturing, project, research • Electronic infrastructure, Blackboard delivery system • Portfolio systems assess, reflect core knowledge • ISO/QS core knowledge, quality functions, applied • American Society for Quality (ASQ) highly integrated • QS minor, proposed QS Certificate, totally web-based Becoming Online Quality Learning Community (OQLC)

Quality Systems, Online Quality Learning Community (OQLC) • QS Core, OQLC curriculum in place, fully online • QS 326: Data-based Improvement • QS 327: Process Documentation Systems • QS 426: Quality Change Services • QS 427: Synchronous Quality Planning • Advanced Technology Education (ATE) degree as base • Use existing five course core from ATE • Mature, fully online systems • Additional courses in the works…….lean, others • Lean sequence complementing QS, three new courses • QS assessment seminar, technical research project • These may be added as QS 3+1 completion grows, adds students

Courseware, Assessment Relationships • Seven sets define core knowledge as the courseware • Primer: overviews system, core knowledge, start point • Cultural: broad change, leadership, transformation • Data: six sigma problem solving, decision-making • Documentation: problem solving, kaizen, lean, ISO • Service: data, documentation in service functions • Information: communications, information technology • Synchronous: product launch, robust analysis, capstone • Manufacturing and non-manufacturing emphasis • MS Word Office Suite, CD format, going to MS Project • Online use design, optimum flexibility, e-commerce • Communication based on broader infrastructure

CIFSNR, IFSNQSTT Foundations …… Consortium for Innovative Food Science and Nutrition Research Institute of Food Science and Nutrition, Quality Systems, and Technology Transfer Mission………committed to development and application of original research opportunities in food and nutrition through collaborative efforts and technology transfer between Bowling Green State University; local, regional, state, and national businesses and organizations; and industries. Initiated as CIFSNR about two years ago, evolving as IFSNQSTT with expanded base of support on and off campus, including Quality Systems as important element.

Food Quality Safety And Security Management System (FQSSMS) • FQSSMS grew out of CIFSNR, IFSNQSTT foundations • Scope is to apply quality system tools, as defined in ISO 9000 and related standards, to food industry • Collaboration of QS students, faculty and Hirzel Canning Company, begun spring, 2004 • Developing model system for transfer, validation • Teams of graduate and undergraduate students organized as FQSSMS baselines, improvement opportunities • QS 326, 426, 427, 527, 626, 702 • Preliminary analyses done last spring, summer, evolving

Food Quality Safety And Security Management System (FQSSMS) • FQSSMS work at Hirzel continues • Currently one undergraduate student doing Hirzel co-op, fundamental documentation oriented toward FQSSMS • Striving to have doctoral fellow in place, to begin review of literature, engage in broader research • Drafted a proposal for consideration, to place in review process this fall, for spring approval • Proposed request is to bring preliminary FQSSMS model to level appropriate for federal funding consideration • Continue research, development, transfer, validate
