  1. JESUS THE CHRIST:OUR GOOD SHEPHERD JOHN 10:1-18

  2. THE ILLUSTRATION • The Sheepfold: a stone wall, perhaps ten feet high, surrounded it, and an opening served as the door. The shepherd would sleep at the opening of the fold and actually become "the door." Nothing could enter or leave the fold without passing over the shepherd • Christ Points Out that the True Shepherd: • comes through the door (v. 1) • calls his sheep by name (v. 3) • they recognize him (v. 3), and (vv. 4-5) • False shepherds and strangers try to hurt the sheep

  3. THE DOGMATIC SHEPHERD • Jesus did not simply say "I am a shepherd" • He claimed to be the exclusive door to God • He claimed he was the only Good Shepherd • He claimed all other were thieves and robbers • Dogmatism forces only two positions: • Jesus is either a crazy person • Jesus is God incarnate on earth

  4. I AM THE DOOR • Jesus is the only way to reconciliation with God • I AM (Εγω): Affirmation of Jesus’ deity • Jn 10:9-Salvation comes through Christ • Jn 14:6-No one comes to God another way • Eph 2:18-Access to God through Christ

  5. I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD Translation: I am the shepherd, the good one Meaning: Everyone else is evil False teachers: Jer 23:2; Matt 7:15; 1Ti 4:1-3 Ezk 34:23-God sent one shepherd 1Pt 2:25-Jesus is the shepherd of our souls

  6. JESUS: THE SELFLESS SHEPHERD • Jesus Drew a Contrast • The thief does not come but to steal and destroy • Jesus characterized His goodness as sacrifice • Jesus gave his life for the sheep • He Saved His Sheep from Any Attack • Jn 10:10- Jesus provided us with salvation • Jn 10:13, 28-Jesus preserves the life He gives • Jn 10:17, 18-Jesus laid down and took his life up
