Resources mobilized • Volunteers from larger society (for health camps, for documentation, media support, adovcacy, survey) • Donation from citizen groups (women’s groups, senior citizens, students, teachers, etc • Medicines from doctor’s associations, and hospitals • Scholarship to children – By AID + matching with other donation

  4. Technology support- Research institute + Gujarat govt + donations from outside • Alternative Livelihood support - from Small scale industries, friends etc. • Radio programme – Community contribution • Admin Exp – JANPATH • HR exp (3 fellows) - ????? (no provisions for the same, currently all 3 fellows working 50% honararium. Difficult to get donaiton for HR cost.

Achievements… • 8,000 families reached directly, organized. • Agariyas became member of district empowered committee (govt) • Government reached the desert for sharing their programmes/planning • Community included in monitoring of govt programmes • Recognized as “traditional salt workers” (earlier called as “illegal salt workers”) • Government budgets increased for welfare • New schemes/programmes were designed • Larger society became aware of Agariya issues

To count…. • 1300 children got support for primary education • 6000 families got free water supply (saving 750 Rs. /month) • 8400 families got safety kits (gum boots, goggles, hand glovers, caps etc) • 2500 people got health support • 900 families got housing support • 8800 families got Identity cards as traditional salt workers

  7. Community will take over in next five years • Will able to Get Policy changes (health, education, micro credit, entitlements ) • Alternative livelihood options increased/ enhanced • Strong community organization will be in place… national linkages built…
