  1. Comparative Study of RHL Between Flight Crew And Office Staff Heidar Khademi*, Paymhan Larizadeh*Associate Professor Of Oral MedicineSchool OF Dentistry And Torabinejad Dental Research Center Of Isfahan University Of Medical Sciences ,Isfahan,Iran Introduction :Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1),an alpha herpes virus, is a large DNA virus causes primary herpetic gingivostomatitis, mucocutaneous orofacial disease, and ocular disease, Data through the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)III revealed that 40%of those under 20 years old are antibody seropositive for HSV1 ,increasing to 65% in those older than 70 years.(100.101) 1,2 After primary infection ,the virus ascends sensory axons via retrograde axonal flow, replicates, and establishes latency within the trigeminal ganglion(102)3When an appropriate trigger occure (such as illness, sunlight, trauma, emotional stress ,or menses),the virus reactivates, replicates in the ganglion, and travels centrifugally along the axon to the skin or mucosal site,Recurrent herpes labialis (RHL) occurs in 20 to 40% of the general population 108-110, 3,4,5 and is probably much higher in immunocompromised patients . . The lack of statistical reports for herpes in different groups and high levels of stress in flight crews this study evaluates the prevalence of Herpes in the personnel of a flight agency. The aim of this study was determination of RHL between flight crew and office staff in flight agency in 2008.Method:In this cross sectional analytic study 63 of flight agency 31 office staff and 32 flight crew selected. After getting the confirmation of the agency a questionnaire containing demographic. (Age, sex, etc) and clinical examination was arranged. Then the required information was gathered with the questionnaire and clinical examinations. The information was analyzed with Chi-square and T-tests.Results: 63 questionnaires were filled out of the 100 given out. 31 by the office staff and 32 by the flight crew. The results showed that 68% of the infected were among the flight crew 32% among the office staff. The total prevalence of recurrent herpes labialis (RHL) in our study was 39.68% there was significant difference between the two groups (p<0.05). The results of the Chi-square test that showed the flight crew had more stress and were more infected. Conclusion:The true prevalence of RHL in our study according to the 4% error was between 34.6 and 42.6 this finding was similar to Sanei et al study in Tehran -16 . And was confirmed by young et al in the US -15 and Darwazeh et al in Jordan-17Keywords: Recurrent Herpes Labialis- - flight crew- office staff. References: . 58. Young TB, Rimm EB, D'alessio DJ.
