  7. Central idea: Either God or sin must die in my life. (Oswald Chambers) I. Will God die in my life? (1 Cor. 5:1-5) II. Will sin die in my life? (1 Cor. 5:6-13)

  8. What happened when? 1. Between 53-55 AD, while in Ephesus, Paul writes a “previous” letter to the Corinthians. (Scripture reference: 1 Cor. 5:9-11)

  9. What happened when? 2. Afterwards, “Chloe’s people” travel to Ephesus to tell Paul about problems in Corinth. (Scripture reference: 1 Cor. 1:11)

  10. What happened when? 3. In response, Paul writes 1 Cor. chapters 1-4. Timothy is about to take this letter to Corinth. (Scripture reference: 1 Cor. 4:17)

  11. What happened when? 4. However, before Timothy leaves, Stephanas, Fortunatas, and Acahicus arrive with more news from Corinth. (Scripture reference: 1 Cor. 16:17)

  12. What happened when? 5. In response, Paul writes 1 Corinthians chapters 5-17. Paul adds them to 1 Cor. chapters 1-4. Timothy takes the entire letter - which we know as 1 Corinthians – to Corinth.
