  4. What makes a poem as poem? • Imagery (five senses)-An Image is a group of words which presents an object or objects, and possibly some action, that appeals to the senses. • Taste • Sight • Sound • Touch • Smell

Figures of Speech • Simile: a stated comparison, employing a connective such as "like" or "as“ • Metaphor: an implied comparison, not directly stated with words such as "like" and "as“ • Personification: human qualities are given to an inanimate object, an abstract idea, or a force of nature. “My love is like a red, red rose” (Robert Burn) “The rain came down in long knitting needles."(Enid Bagnold, National Velvet) “The Night was creeping on the ground!
