  1. State of Wyoming Capitol Upgrades and Renovation projects Photos of the skylight and lighting project will be shown in chronological order, followed by photos of the Room 302 remodel. They will be updated throughout the 2008 interim as work progresses in Wyoming’s State Capitol.

  2. Skylight & Lighting Project • In 1997, HDH Associates provided a condition report to the Wyoming Department of Administration and Information (A&I) about weaknesses in the wire glass panels in the pyramidal skylights set in metal frames above the stained glass in the Senate and House of Representatives Chambers. The removal of the wire glass and installation of a new copper roof system was recommended. • A&I implemented the HDH recommendations and chose to eliminate the skylights in the cupolas and replace that area with the new copper roof system. • In 2002, the Wyoming Legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee requested a cost estimate from A&I to restore natural sunlight in the House and Senate Chambers. • In 2004, the Select Committee on Legislative Facilities was tasked to study the options for reopening the skylights in the House and Senate Chambers to sunlight and contracted with Hefferan Partnership Lighting Design to conduct a feasibility study. • Based on this study, during the 2007 General Session, the Wyoming Legislature appropriated $1,200,000 for lighting and skylight renovation in the Senate and House Chambers. • Edwards Construction of Cheyenne was awarded the contract by A&I, and LSO contracted with architect Glenn Garrett to design and install the skylights and update the lighting in the Chambers, which will restore natural light to the Chambers and better illuminate the stained glass. • The project is expected to be completed by early fall of 2008.

  3. The skylights are a result of many months of planning and hard work by the many parties involved in the project.

  4. (View facing West; April 2, 2008) The copper shown here, above the Senate Chamber, will be removed and replaced with a new skylight system.

  5. (View facing East; April 2, 2008) Natural light will mean the difference between “night and day” in the House Chamber once the new skylight system is installed this summer.

  6. (Senate Chamber; April 9, 2008) The Senators’ desks have been covered with plastic in the Senate Chamber to protect them from dust and debris that may fall during the skylight installation and lighting upgrades.

  7. (House of Representatives Chamber; April 9, 2008) The Representatives’ desks have also been covered with plastic in the House Chamber to protect them from dust and debris that may fall during the skylight installation and lighting upgrades.

  8. (House Chamber; June 26, 2008) Crews from Edwards Construction of Cheyenne use a crane to hoist materials onto the roof of the House Chamber for the new catwalk system that will be installed.

  9. (House Chamber; June 26, 2008) The catwalk is part of the Skylight Renovation and Lighting Project in the House and Senate Chambers approved by the Wyoming Legislature in 2007.

  10. (House Chamber; June 26, 2008) This view from the Herschler Building shows crews from Edwards Construction lifting materials onto the roof of Wyoming’s State Capitol in preparation for the skylight installation.

  11. (July 23, 2008) Crews from Edwards Construction, along with the skylight manufacturer, Supersky, are shown here unloading the Capitol skylights from a flatbed trailer.

  12. (July 23, 2008) The Wyoming State Capitol skylights are unloaded from the flatbed trailer shown in this photo.

  13. (July 23, 2008) Construction crews unload the skylights, which will be installed over both the House and Senate Chambers by the Fall of 2008.

  14. (July 23, 2008) Construction crews move the skylights to a secure, staging area in this photo before the installation can begin above the House and Senate Chambers.

  15. (July 24, 2008) The skylights sit in this secure, staging area where they will be assembled and then hoisted onto the roof of the Wyoming Capitol for installation.

  16. (View facing East; July 28, 2008) Crews from Edwards Construction begin removing the copper covering from the skylights above the House Chamber.

  17. (View facing East; July 28, 2008) The copper covering from two panels above the House Chamber has been removed in preparation for the new skylights.

  18. (July 29, 2008) Assembly of the Capitol skylights has begun in the Capitol’s north parking lot.

  19. (July 29, 2008) Once assembled, the skylights will be hoisted onto the roof of the House and Senate Chambers with a crane.

  20. (July 30, 2008) Assembly of the skylights continues to progress in the Capitol’s north parking lot as shown in this bird’s eye view.

  21. (July 31, 2008) Construction crews have assembled each section of the skylights and loaded them onto this flatbed trailer for storage until they are ready to be installed on the roof.

  22. (July 31, 2008) Here is another view of crews loading the skylight frames onto the trailer.

  23. (View facing East; July 31, 2008) The copper has been completely removed from the House of Representatives Chamber.

  24. (View facing West; August 4, 2008) Crews from Edwards Construction have started taking off the copper from atop the Senate Chamber in preparation for the new skylights.

  25. (House of Representatives Chamber; August 5, 2008) Construction crews hoist the skylight glass onto the roof of the Capitol using a crane.

  28. (House of Representatives Chamber; August 5, 2008) The track for the new trolley system below the skylights is lowered into the attic above the House of Representatives Chamber.

  29. (House of Representatives Chamber; August 5, 2008) Edwards Construction works to fit the track into the attic through one of the skylight panels.

  30. (House of Representatives Chamber; August 5, 2008) Construction crews work to move the trolley track into its final resting place in the House of Representatives attic.

  31. (House of Representatives Chamber; August 5, 2008) This vantage point from inside the attic shows as crews lower the rails for the catwalk and trolley system above the House of Representatives Chamber.
