Welcome back to school!. Mrs. Emily Cline Trailwood Elementary 2013-21014 Fifth Grade. Welcome!. It is so nice to see familiar faces! All summer I have been reading new books and getting to know the fifth grade curriculum. I’m so excited about having a change this year!.

  1. Welcome back to school! Mrs. Emily Cline Trailwood Elementary 2013-21014 Fifth Grade

  2. Welcome! It is so nice to see familiar faces! All summer I have been reading new books and getting to know the fifth grade curriculum. I’m so excited about having a change this year!

  3. Classroom Expectations In this class we…..Listen, share, smile, take turns, are respectful, are friends to everybody, try our best, laugh, help others, clean up, have fun, show good character, and LEARN.

  4. Classroom Management • Regular review and practice of classroom expectations • Classroom tickets • 2 per day: behavior and completed work • Homeworkopoly • Praise/encouragement/note to parents • Fun Friday • “Buy” time with classroom tickets

  5. Classroom Management • Safe Seat/Think Sheet • Time away from recess or other preferred activity (never the whole recess time) • Office referral

  6. Brain and Body To address the different needs of learners, I apply the following strategies in all subjects when applicable: • Stretch/breathing breaks • Partner and group work • Movement in classroom • Songs and short video clips • Manipulatives

  7. Math • District Curriculum • Morning work with weekly Friday quizzes • Envision • Games, math projects, problem solving , overheads, and practice sheets • Online accounts • Will record in planners in the next few weeks.

  8. Reading/LA • I will work with each student to set quarterly AR goals. • Quizzes during extra time in classroom, library and computer room. • Reading Logs • Reading Wonders! Online textbook • Novel studies/literature circles-workshop • Wordly Wise

  9. Reading/LA • DLR • Daily Language Review (DLR) part of morning work packet • Writing • Six Traits Rubric • Writing process

  10. Social Studies • Mrs. Williamson daily 1:45-2:30 • Main Units of study • United States history • Explores, Early Settlers, West Expansion • Forms of Government • Geography and Map Skills • Heroes Project (in our class also) • Online textbook

  11. Science • Mrs. Cline daily at 1:00 • Textbook and tests • Interactive Science Notebook (ISN) • Units of study • Scientific Process • Properties of the earth • Solar System • Human body • Science Projects

  12. Daily Planner • Students will be asked to write/look at their planners daily. • This is their responsibility.

  13. Homework • Friday: Homework packet assigned • Math practice, spelling pages, reading log • Packet due, spelling test • Thursday: • Spelling homework due • Math homework due • Spelling test • Occasional homework: • Science test reviews, book projects, project research, math practice, etc.

  14. Homework District policy = 50 minutes per day I understand that each child has a different speed and attentiveness on homework, so some may finish early. Even so, I would like each child to spend the 50 minutes on something school related. Ask your child, “What would you like to do during study time tonight?”

  15. Homework Things they can always be working on: • Assigned homework • AR reading • A personal journal • Research for a topic we are studying • Any unfinished work • Practice math facts • Study/review notes from each subject • Correct missed math problems • Visit our classroom website

Grading Policy • Late assignment = any homework not turned in and completed by 8:10 the day it is due, • Class work not done by the end of the school day –sent home for homework • 10% will be deducted on the second day • On the third day, a 0 will be recorded. • SMS Area Policy • Life Happens • Stepping Stones!!!

  18. Parent/Teacher Conferences • October 23-25 • Wednesday until 5:00 • Nights available on Thursday the 24th Sign up TONIGHT!!!
