Rainy Day Ideas… Musical Coloring!This activity is a spin off of "musical chairs". Have some fun coloring and listening to music give your toddler, yourself and any other kids a sheet of paper and start the music. Let them all color with a crayon and then when the music stops tell them to stop coloring. Then rotate your sheet around and let everyone start coloring again and start the music. Sing with the music and then stop the music and have everyone stop. Rotate the papers again! At the end you'll all have a piece of paper that everyone has drawn on and shared the coloring activity with. Put the artwork on display for everyone to see! Supplies Needed-- paper- crayons- music to listen to Tips/Suggestions-- This is a great activity to teach the children how to share and how it is more fun to do things with others. Let him/her see how you all can make a great drawing by sharing the paper and working together! FUN Crayon OutlinesLet your toddler be a real artist with this activity! You can find some plastic suncatchers at most craft or superstores. Put them under some paper and let your toddler rub some crayons over the suncatcher. He'll see the magic of the outline from the suncatcher underneath appear before his eyes. It's almost like making your own coloring book. Supplies Needed:- paper- plastic suncatcher- crayons Tips/Suggestions:- While your toddler is uncovering the picture, mention what you see as they appear. (Ex. Look Joey, there's a wheel you just found)- You can tape the back of the suncatcher to a piece of cardboard or the craft table before putting the paper over it so that the suncatcher doesn't move while your toddler draws on it. Egg Carton Drawing!Here's a fun way to color with crayons! Take an empty Styrofoam egg carton and turn it upside down, on some white paper. Cut some small slits in the egg pockets only about 1/2 inch long. Then push some crayons into the slits so that they hit the paper underneath. (see photo) Now move the crayons around while they are still being held up in the egg carton. (be sure that you push down so that the crayon tip is still on the paper) You can go around in circles or any direction you want. Do that with each crayon as much as you want and then lift up the whole thing, carton with crayons, and see your surprise drawing underneath on the paper! Nice job! Now remove the crayons from the slits and put in some different colors and do it again!! Roller PaintingIt's always fun to find new ways for a toddler to paint! Here's one way that your toddler can have some fun and make a great piece of art all at the same time. Take an empty cylindrical wipes container and peel off the label. Then take a dish sponge and cut about a half inch in a spiral so that you end up with one long, curly string of sponge. Then take the string of sponge and wrap it around the middle of the wipes container. Tape each end or tie with a string. Then let your toddler roll the container on a plate with paint on it so that the sponge soaks up some paint. Next have her roll the whole thing on some paper and see what she makes. She can roll back and forth holding onto the side of the container. Supplies Needed-- cylindrical plastic wipes container- sponge- tape/string- plate- kids paint- paper Tips/Suggestions-- If you don't have the same container as in the photos, you could always use a paper towel tube. - Let your toddler pick the colors to use!- Talk about going "forward" and "back" while your toddler rolls it back and forth. Supplies Needed: (Egg Carton Drawing Con’t)- Styrofoam egg carton- scissors- crayons- paper Tips/Suggestions:- Let your toddler help with putting the crayons into the slits/holes- While your toddler is moving one crayon, talk about the color- Help your toddler move the crayon in a circle to show her what it is.
