  3. What is Financial Aid Financial aid consists of funds provided to students and families to help pay for postsecondary educational expenses Sources Federal government Veteran’s Affairs States Private sources Civic organizations and churches Employers

FAFSA on the Web • Web site: www.fafsa.gov • Can apply every January 1st for the upcoming award yr. • 2013-14 FAFSA became available on January 1, 2013 • Sign FAFSA electronically with pin • May be used by students and parents throughout aid process, including subsequent school years • You will need to use CBS school code 0034224

Eligibility for Financial Aid Federal aid Have a high school diploma or equivalent or GED Be admitted in the Bachelors or Associates Degree Program Be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen Not be in default on any federal student loan, or owe money on federal student grant Institutional aid All of the above Awarded based on meeting SAP Can also receive if in Bible Certificate Program

FAFSA Processing Results • Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) sent to colleges listed on FAFSA approximately 7 to 10 days after FAFSA submitted • College reviews ISIR • May request additional documentation, such as copies of federal tax transcript. 2-3 weeks processing time. Special Circumstances • Cannot report on FAFSA • Provide information to SFS office

Types of Financial Aid at CBS Loans Money students and parents borrow to help pay college expenses Repayment usually begins after education is finished Only borrow what is really needed Look at loans as an investment in the future Pell Grant & Scholarships • Does not have to be paid back • Awarded based on need and enrollment • CBS scholarships awarded based on meeting SAP standards and enrollment

  11. Disbursements and Refunds After your fees and any other charges on your CBS student account are paid, any remaining financial aid will be refunded to you by check in the mail. Generally, if Student Financial Services has disbursed aid onto your student account and a credit is created, you can expect to receive a refund approximately 5-14 business days later.

Payment Plans Enrollment Go to myrecords.cbshouston.edu Log in Go to “Billing” tab Click on “Make a payment/payment plan” Requirements Automatic bank payment (ACH) Credit/debit card $25 per semester nonrefundable enrollment fee $30 returned payment fee No minimum balance to participate Advantages Easy online enrollment Monthly payment plan Flexible payment options No interest

Student Responsibilities(pay attention to emails) Always refer to SFS office for questions about account You MUST accept your awards in order for aid to be disbursed Loans may be cancelled if not accepted within 30 days Notify of any enrollment changes (Add/Drop) CBS reserves the right to correct any errors made on financial aid awards Update address of record Maintain SAP (GPA and Completion ratio) Grades of F, W, WA, and I are not considered as satisfactory completion.
