  2. Beginning • Trojan soldiers are inside the walls of Troy. • “Drinking away their thirst”: no longer prepared for battle • Hector shackled by his deadly fate in front of the Scaean Gate.

  3. Orion’s Dog • Brightest of all the stars in the night sky. • Fatal sign emblazoned on the heavens. • Brings killing fever down on man.

  4. King Priam • King of Troy • Hates Achilles because Achilles has come to kill Hector in revenge for the death of Patroclus • Achilles has killed other sons of Priam

  5. Hector in Hiding • Priam insists that Hector hides within the walls. • Priam has lost too many sons already to the Greeks. • If Hector dies, Troy will die.

  6. Hector’s Motivations • Hector is a stubborn, self-confident warrior. • Hector has refused to take safety within the city. • He wants to fight for the good of the Trojans. • He was more afraid of shaming himself in front of Troy.
