  1. Jennifer Allen • Moved several times as a child. (Boston, D.C, Atlanta, Ancorage) • BFA from University of Alaska Anchorage (2002) • MFA from Indiana University (2006) • Part time teacher at West Virginia University • Conceptual Ideas and Influences • Express sentiments of beauty and joy through porcelain tableware • Made to honor and enhance the rhythms of home life • Landscapes, textiles, home, food and historical crafts • Looks for textile images that come from times of prosperity and optimism • Examples: kimono patterns from Edo period, Japan, Post WWII designs, and Art and Craft Era designs • Process • Uses mostly porcelain • Incorporates both wheel-thrown and hand-built elements • Often uses darting techniques • Her Style • Generous and graceful • Useful and comfortable

  2. Lesson Plan Ideas • Develop a piece of functional ceramic work that incorporates a sense of comfort and generosity. Be sure to include an explanation explaining how your work conveys these factors. • Create a piece of functional ceramic work that incorporates both wheel thrown and hand built pieces. This work needs to be based off an inspiration experience in the student’s life and has to be shown within the work, but not using literal symbols. • Throw a piece of ceramic work on the wheel that can use the darting technique at least two times effectively. After darting this piece use an inspiration from historical references to develop décor within this piece. References Jennifer Allen-Ceramic Works.(n.d.).
