Middle Fork Project TERR 3 – Noxious Weed Technical Study Report Overview

This report provides an overview of the noxious weed populations at existing project facilities, potential project betterments, and various recreational areas. The study objectives are to document and analyze the presence of noxious weeds and implement the study in accordance with TERR-3 guidelines. The results show the identification of 27 species of noxious weeds, including some previously unrecorded species. The report also highlights the most abundant species in different locations.

TERR 3 Study Objectives • Document Noxious Weed Populations at Existing Project Facilities and Features, Recreation Facilities, and Dispersed Concentrated Use Areas • Document Noxious Weed Populations at Potential Project Betterments, Including New Facilities, Roads, and Trails; Staging and Disposal Sites; as Well as New Inundation Areas

Study Implementation • Implemented in Accordance with TERR 3 – TSP • Consistent with Section 2083 of the Forest Service Manual, Information and Reporting Guidelines for Noxious Weeds (USDA-FS 1995) • Conducted in Conjunction with: • Special-Status plant surveys (June, July, and August 2008) • Riparian surveys at quantitative geomorphic and riparian sampling sites (2007)

Noxious Weed Survey Results • 27 Noxious Weed Species Identified • 24 species at existing Project facilities and features • 18 species at Project recreation facilities • 23 species at dispersed concentrated use areas • 19 species at potential Project betterments • 20 species at quantitative geomorphic and riparian sampling sites

Noxious Weed Survey Results (continued) • Five Noxious Weed Species Identified were not Previously Recorded in the Project Area • Italian thistle (Carduus pycnocephalus) • Malta starthistle (tocalote) (Centaurea melitensis) • Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense) • White sweet clover (Melilotus albus) • Spreading hedgeparsley (Torilis arvensis)
