  1. What is a Title 1 School?

  2. Title 1 is one of the largest federally funded educational programs. It provides additional resources to eligible schools in districts throughout the nation.

  3. Jefferson Elementary is a 100% Title I school. This is determined by the number of families eligible for Free & Reduced lunch. You can help support Title 1 by completing the income verification form .

  4. We provide academic assistance to all students who are struggling to achieve the state learning standards.

  5. Staff may work in a classroom with a group of students or pull students out providing scientifically based research methods and materials for literacy, math and social skills instruction.

  6. During the day your child may be served by………

  7. One of our 8 Classroom Literacy Assistants. • They assist the teacher in instructing small groups of children in the classroom. • This allows for smaller groups within the classroom.

  8. They may also visit one of the two highly qualified intervention teachers that have been hired for pull-out reading or math instruction.

  9. Students also have access to technology at Jefferson. They may use our computer lab ~Or ~ Use Dell Chromebooks in the classroom This technology has been funded with Title 1 dollarsin order to have the most up to date technology for our students.

  10. All Kindergarten students are instructed by an Early Reading Interventionist during the day.

  11. Teachers at Title 1 Schools Every teacher and paraprofessional in a Title 1 school must meet the “highly qualified status” required by the No Child Left Behind act. Parents may request information regarding the professional qualifications of their student’s classroom teacher at any time. Schools are held accountable for improving the academic achievement of all students to ensure Title 1 requirementsare met.

  12. Research finds that when families and schools cooperate, the results include: Higher grades and test scores Better attendance More homework completed Higher graduation rate

What You Need to Know About Parent Involvement Parent Involvement is a requirement of No Child Left Behind Title 1 schools must: • Set aside 1% of their budget for Parent Involvement activities • Have school-level parent involvement activities and parent meetings. • Have a school-parent compact • Involve parents in the planning, review and improvement of programs and policies. • Provide support for families to participate in these activities.
