  2. Walt~Disney World Biography of Walt Disney • Born on December 5, 1901, to Elias and Flora Disney on Chicago. • He was often beaten as punishment • The Disney family had very little money • He would have to work several jobs to maintain the family Emily and Kayley

  3. Walt~DisneyWorld Before the World • When Walt Disney created Disney Land he did not buy the surrounding land • Small tacky businesses bought up the land and Walt was upset • Walt really disliked all the tourist traps Emily and Kayley

  4. Walt~Disney World The Hunt • Walt looked at many different locations for his new park • He considered St. Louis and Niagara Falls. • He finally decided on Florida, because of the weather, lots of available land, and very accessible. Emily and Kayley

  5. Walt~DisneyWorld Creating the World • Disney sent scouts to Florida to buy land in 1963 • He bought land under different company names • He ended up buying 27,000 acres Emily and Kayley

Walt~Disney World Prices, Strategies, Names • Walt figured that he could not go and buy the land himself. • He sent scouts down to scope out the land • The land was bought under assumed names, Tomahawk Properties, Latin American Development, and Retlaw(Walter spelled backwards).   7. Walt~Disney World Who was it? • People were speculating about who was buying all the Land. • Some guesses were: Ford Motor Company, Howard Huges, and Walt Disney. Emily and Kayley

  8. Walt~Disney World The News Got Out • Walt eventually told that he was building a new park in Florida • The price for land skyrocketed • Before Walt had been paying $180 an acre. The new price was $80,000. Emily and Kayley

  9. Walt~Disney World The Results • The results of Walt’s long search was Disney World. • Due to extreme care, the park had plenty of land around it for the growth of the park. So that his world would never end! Emily and Kayley
