  3. Character, Setting, and Plot Comprehension:

  4. Stories contain three main elements: character, setting, and plot. The characters and setting work together to shape the plot. Each event in a story affects the events that follow it. The plot often includes several events that reveal a conflict or problem. At the end of most stories, the conflict or problem is resolved.

  5. Character, Setting, and Plot: What makes Amada realize that she is stronger that she thought in the story “My Diary from Here to There”?

  6. Amada realized she would always hold memories of Mexico and the love of her friends and family inside her heart. She also realized she had been able to get through difficult times on the journey to the United States. Both of these were sources of strength for her.

  7. Character, Setting, and Plot Practice: Open your Practice Book to page 129. Read the paragraph and complete the story map.

  8. Use Story Structure Practice: Look in your reading books on Pages 580 and 581.
