  1. PERRY HIGH SCHOOLSTEM DIPLOMASTEM SCHOLAR DIPLOMA (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

  2. OBJECTIVE • To offer the most rigorous academic program available for ALL students whose interest is in the engineering and science fields. The STEM Diploma would offer a blend of classroom course work and real world experience along with project based learning. Students will be exposed to a comprehensive college prep program for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine, and Mathematics.

REQUIREMENTS • CUSD graduation requirements-22 credits • STEM diploma and STEM Scholar diploma requirements-23 credits • 5 credits of Mathematics (Including AP Statistics) • 6 credits of Science or 6 credits of Science/Engineering (Chemistry and Physics) • 4 credits of English • 3 credits of Social Studies • 2 credits of World Language • 1 credit of Fine Arts • .5 credit of Health • 1 credit of Physical Education • 2 summer STEM workshops at ASU/PHS/ERAU - Sophomore and Junior summers • Program of Study workshops (Not required) • 1 summer STEM Experience…Senior summer • Job Shadowing at partner companies • STEM Exploration • Summer enrichment programs at ASU • Summer bridge programs at ASU • Students must maintain a 3.5 weighted GPA for the STEM Diploma and a 3.8 weighted GPA for the STEM Scholar Diploma • Students who fall below GPA minimums would be put on probation for a semester. Failure to raise their GPA above the minimum at the conclusion of the semester will result in removal from the program.

FEATURES • Online learning opportunity • Project Based Learning models that coordinate content from AP science courses and higher level mathematics courses • Participation in summer workshops • STEM Experience • Focus courses available in partnership with CGCC and ASU • Engineering, Biotechnology, and Computer Sciences • Computer Science/Engineering courses at PHS • Extensive opportunity to earn college credits prior to graduation from high school • Rigorous program of study to make your student college ready

RECOGNITION • STEM students will receive an additional diploma at graduation • STEM students will be noted in the graduation program as a STEM diploma recipient • STEM students will be given a cord to wear at graduation • STEM students will indicate the program on their college admission applications

CAREER CENTER/COORDINATORSUPPORT • One counselor will be assigned to track and assist students throughout their 4 years in the program • Fred Mann: STEM coordinator • Students will work with the Career Center to apply for college admission and scholarships • Counselor/Coordinator will assist students with applying for summer workshops and STEM experience • Counselor/Coordinator will assist students in enrolling in online courses and off-campus courses from the Focus menu. • Counselor will maintain credits checks and GPA checks to ensure students’ success in the program • Offer Program of Study Workshops for no fee

PARTNERSHIPS • ASU will: • Guarantee admittance into ASU Polytechnic program • Allow students to take EGR 101/102 (Engineering) at Polytechnic campus • Offer summer STEM workshops • Offer a Junior High School summer head start program • Help promote the program and attend informational nights • Work to have offerings for the STEM Experience

  8. PARTNERSHIPS • Chandler Gilbert Community College will: • schedule classes as needed to assist PHS students in completing their focus courses if enrollment is sufficient • Work to offer college courses at PHS • Work to have offerings for the STEM Experience

  9. PARTNERSHIPS • Embry Riddle Aeronautical University • Will work to have offerings for the STEM workshops • Provide Engineering dual enrollment course at PHS

  10. STUDENT EXPECTATIONS • Students in the program will be required to: • Complete AP exams in all AP classes they take • Take the ACT, PSAT and SAT tests • Must take PSAT test in the Fall of their Junior year even if they have taken it as a Freshman or Sophomore • Apply for university admission

PROGRAM COSTS • AP Exams are $89.00 per exam • Dual Enrollment for college credit is $76.00 per credit hour • College courses taken at CGCC are $76.00 per credit hour • University courses taken at ASU are $592.00 per credit hour (Typical course is 3-4 credit hours) • Fees for summer workshops at ASU, PHS and ERAU • Possible STEM Experience fees • Financial assistance may be available

  15. APPLICATION PROCESS • Interested students need to complete an application • Applications will be accepted at registration for new freshmen • Applications are reviewed by a committee. Students will be notified at their junior high school (in CUSD) or by mail
