And the Spanish have a different word for ‘THE’ for each of these groups. • Laniña – The girl • Elniño – The boy Notice how the word ends in an ‘a’ for the girl and an ‘o’ for the boy? Most nouns that end in an ‘a’ are feminine and most nouns that end in an ‘o’ are masculine. • . And in Spanish the word ‘The’ also has to show if there are more than one of the word you are describing • Lasniñas - The girls • Losniños – The boys • Notice also how the noun has an ‘s’ on it to show it is plural?

The • Nouns that do not end in an ‘a’ or an ‘o’ are also either masculine or feminine • La televisión – The television • Las televisiónes – The televisions • El árbol – The tree • Los árboles – The trees • El ordenador – The computer • Los ordendores – The computers • La bicicleta – the bicycle • Las bicicletas – the bicycles • Did you notices how the plural of words that do not end in ‘a or o’ make their plurals with an –es ??
