  4. VBA Application • Applications = Databases • Veteran’s File = Veteran’s Claim (File/Claim # is usually the Veteran’s SSN except for older claims) • Read Only = We can’t change anything • For Official Use Only • Sensitive Information

  5. Databases Note: Most databases have multiple tabs and/or sub tabs. Many have sub, sub-tabs. And some that have sub, sub, sub-tabs. Example: The database SHARE has 7 sub-databases. There are approx.61 pages of information with up to 30 pieces of information on a page.

  6. Databases (Cont.) • SHARE = Contains info on current and previous claims • MAP-D (Modern Awards Processing Development) = Shows issues, evidence received, evidence requested and SOME letters to the Veteran

  7. Databases (Cont.) • VACOLS (Veteran Appeals Control and Locator) = Only database with appeal information • Virtual VA = View rating decisions, code sheets, & some QTC/C&P exams. (Only Counselors / CSO’s co-located at a VA facility or on a VA direct line can get Virtual VA.)

  8. Databases (Cont.) More Notes: • Most databases provides unique info • Some databases require manual update Example: POA • Some databases do not communicate with each other with identical info Example: Two different addresses on the same Veteran in two different databases

  9. VA Terms & Codes • Acronym – A word formed from initials or groups of letters in a phrase or series • NATO = North Atlantic Treaty Organization • MADD = Mothers Against Drunk Drivers • OPEC = Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries • NAFTA = North America Free Trade Agreement

  10. VA Terms & Codes (Cont.) • Dictionary – Common abbreviations & acronyms • VA Codes – Represent information concerning a Veteran • End Product (EP) codes – Three digit for type of claim (Note third digit is a special modifier)
