  2. Pathos What do you think of when you see this cartoon? What stands out to you in this cartoon? Do you understand what message the cartoon is sending out?

  3. When I first look at this cartoon, I notice the thought bubble. This cartoon can be classified as Pathos, because of the message that is meant to be sent out. • Notice that when President Obama says “I can see clear skies ahead”, the audience automatically pulls out their umbrellas, preparing for the rain. • Maybe the artist of this cartoon believes that if Obama says that something will occur, the opposite is what’s really going to happen.To me, this comes off as the artist believes Obama is dumb.

  6. Symbol • Umbrellas held by the audience in the crowd can serve as a symbol. • Why do you use an umbrella? To cover up for the rain. • This is what the audience in the cartoon is doing, once they hear President Obama say he sees clear skies, they automatically believe that something bad will happen, and they get out umbrellas to take cover for the “rain”.

  7. Exaggeration • It is very common in political cartoons to exaggerate on objects in the image. Especially in cartoons of President Obama. Most cartoonists exaggerate on the size of his head, the proportion of his body, and his bushy eyebrows. It is extremely common to make his ears extra large.
