GVI Sub-regions for VIIRS 500m VH product The GVI regions covers latitude zone from 55.152S to 75.024N It was divided into 8 x8 sub-regions with the same size Each region covers 45° x 16.27 ° degree, For VIIRS 500m VH product, each region has 1000x3616 grid cells All images are available at: http://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/smcd/emb/vci/VH/modis_browse16daysNDVI.php

Scaling NDVI from various satellites • NDVI derived from: • AVHRR on NOAA-7,9,11,14,16,18,19 • MODIS on Aqua • VIIRS on Soumi NPP • Find the relationship: • NDviirsandNDmoids • NDviirs and NDN19 • NDmoidsand NDN19 • Proposal: Use the N19 as standard so that the VH is comparable to VH from AVHRR • scale VIIRS NDVI to N19 equivalent NDVI • scale MODIS NDVI climatology to N19 equivalent NDVI, interpolation need be done for 23 16-days periods to 52 weeks.

  7. Landsea mask • Source: • MOD44W : 250m water mask from MODIS Terra satellite • Invalid cells on 500m MODIS NDVI climatology (during the 11 years, there is no valid NDVI on these pixels.) • Land mask: • is a dataset of land flag • with 0 for water, 1 for land or coast • Option: When calculate weekly composite, do not output water pixels. • Option: When do ND, skip water pixel
