  2. Basis • People are becoming very dependent on their cell phones everyday • Often, they store their lives in their phones

  3. The Problem • The text messages and call log that we think we “delete”, are actually still accessible • Phone conversations are not really private

  4. What Do You Think? How long to you think phone companies… save your call detailed records? Various lengths, but minimum amount of time is at least a year. can save text messages detail and the content? Text detail is saved for < year, but many don’t keep the content except for a few (ex. Verizon 3-5 days) can keep your picture messages? To access, you have to contact the company, while others are saved online or are not kept.

Teen Life • 57% of teenagers view cell phones as key to their social life • Willing to break boundaries so that phones are personalized to fit their lifestyles • 18% teens care to pinpoint friends • while 36% hate the idea of being located • 80% say that it’s a sense of security • Being able to call for a ride • Help someone in an emergency • Get information

  8. Trusting Your Company Paris Hilton’s cell phone pictures spread on the internet because she didn’t know pictures were stored online Kwame Kilpatrick was busted because the text messages that had evidence were saved and accessed

The Government • Michigan State Police started using • “extraction devices” to download info on • motorists they pull over, even if no crime • is suspected • Text messages • Photos • Videos • GPS data • Police need a warrant in most cases to obtain cellular information • FBI and NSA can tap into phone conversations and record them BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY!

  10. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth • Even though free, Wi-Fi is insure • Monitored and can be attacked • Bluetooth can be helpful to pass info • Attackers can use it to access contacts, calls, ect. on targeted phone

  11. Parental Control • If you are under your parents plan then your parents can access your phone information • Location (GPS) • Text Messages • Phone Calls • Picture Messages • Websites

  12. The Future? Will it go so far that the government knows everything we say and do at every moment? Will anything be private? Are we going to let this happen or will we draw the line at a certain point?
