  • To investigate the interrelationships and synergies between learning a second language and learning about its culture

  • Always important, but even more so in this age of globalization

We are focusing on the following languages and cultures:

  • Blackfoot

  • Mandarin

  • French

  • Spanish

  • and if so, why they find it important.

  • (2) document a range of approaches to teaching a second language and its culture by collecting examples of learning experiences and learning resources that practicing second language educators use.

  • Why they believe it is important to learn about a culture and its language together.

  • What aspects of the language-culture nexus they take up with their students and why they emphasize these.

  • What pedagogical issues related to teaching cultures in second language classrooms arise for them.

  • What obstacles to students’ understanding of a second language and culture the teachers regularly encounter, and how they work to overcome them.

  • What learning experiences, assessments and resources they find to be the most beneficial for their students.
