  1. SCIATICATREATMENT Sciaticaischaracterisedbypaininthelowerbackandglutealregion.Thispaincanradiatedownoneorbothlegsintothethigh,calf,ankle,andfoot.Genuinesciaticaoccurswhenpaintravelsbelowtheknee.

SciaticaIsCausedbyNerveCompression Sciaticaisgenerallycausedbysciaticnervecompression.Disordersknowntocausesciaticnervepainincludelumbarspinesubluxations(misalignedvertebralbody/ies),herniatedorbulgingdiscs(slippeddiscs),pregnancyandchildbirth,tumors,andnon-spinaldisorderssuchasdiabetes,constipation,orsittingonone'sbackpocketwallet. Onecommoncauseofsciaticaispiriformissyndrome.Piriformissyndromeisnamedafterthepiriformismuscle.Thepiriformismuscleislocatedinthelowerpartofthespine,connectstothethighbone,andassistsinhiprotation.Thesciaticnerverunsbeneaththepiriformismuscle.Thismuscleissusceptibletoinjuryfromaslipandfall,hiparthritis,oradifferenceinleglength.Suchsituationscancausecramping and spasm to develop in the piriformis muscle, thereby pinching the sciatic nerve and causing inflammation and pain. DRUGS,MEDICATIONS Yourdoctormayprescribecertainmedicationsorspinalinjectionstotreatyoursciatica.Theseverityofyourpaindeterminestheprescrip-tion,whichcouldbe: EpiduralSteroidInjections:Steroids, which reduce inflammation, can help ease your sciatic pain. With an epidural steroid injection, yougetacorticosteroidmedicineinjectednearthespinalnerveroots.Theseinjectionscanreducepainformonthsandsometimeslonger.However,epiduralsteroidinjectionsaren'teffectiveforallpatients. Over-the-counter NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs): Thesewillhelpreduceswellingwhilerelievingyourpain.Ifanover-the-counterNSAIDisanoptionforyou,youandyourdoctorhaveplentytochoosefrom.Youcanuseibuprofen(Advil)ornaproxen(Aleve). PrescriptionMedications:Ifyouhavechronicsciatica,youmayneedamusclerelaxanttohelpeasemusclespasms.Assurprisingasitmayseem,anti-depressantscanbeeffectivedrugsfortreatingpainbecausetheymayhelpblockpainmessagesontheirwaytothebrain.Theycanalsohelpincreaseyourbody'sproductionofendorphins,anaturalpainkiller. Aswithanytreatment,youmustfollowyourdoctor'sadviceprecisely.Nevermixover-the-counterandprescribeddrugswithoutconsultingyourdoctor.Youshouldalsoletyourdoctorknowaboutallothermedicationsyou'retaking(andevenwhichvitaminsandsupplementsyoutake);therecouldbeinteractionsyouwanttoavoid. Yourdoctormayreferyoutoaphysicaltherapisttohelpyourelieveyoursciaticaandrestoremovement.Physicaltherapyincludesbothpassiveandactivetreatments.Passivetreatmentshelptorelaxyouandyourbody.Theyalsoprepareyourbodyfortherapeuticexercise,whichistheactivepartofphysicaltherapy.
