  2. “Living Words”

  3. Acts 7 verses 37-38 37  This is the Moses who told the Israelites, “God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people.”  38  He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us.

  4. John 1 verse 47 47 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”

  5. John 1 verses 35-48 35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.  36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”  37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.

  6. John 1 verses 35-48 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”  39  “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.

  7. John 1 verses 35-48 40  Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus.  41  The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ).

  8. John 1 verses 35-48 42  And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter ). 43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”

  9. John 1 verses 35-48 44  Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida.  45  Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

  10. John 1 verses 35-48 46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip.  47  When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”

  11. John 1 verses 35-48 48  “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”

  12. John 1 verses 26-27 26  “I baptise with water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know.  27 He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”

  13. Matthew 3 verse 11 11  “I baptise you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

  14. “Living Words” WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

  15. Matthew 26 verses 3-4 3  Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,  4  and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.

  16. Romans 13 verse3 3  For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.

  17. Mark 7 verses 20-23 20  He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them.  21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder,

  18. Mark 7 verses 20-23 22  adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.  23  All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

  19. Phillipians 1 verses 12-18 12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel.  13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.

  20. Philippians 1 verses 12-18 14 And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.  15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.

  21. Philippians 1 verses 12-18 16 The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defence of the gospel.  17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.

  22. Philippians 1 verses 12-18 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,
