Belbin’s Team Action Roles Model and Improvement of Children’s PLE Grades in Northern Uganda Yahya Bakhit, Albukhary International University, AlorSetar, Kedah, Malaysia G01 SHL1013 Professional English (9 December 2013) Background & Urgency of the Problem Proposed Poster Design Summary of the Theory • Primary school children in northern Uganda performs poorly compared to other regions year after year(Makuma & Mukama, 2012) The theory of team roles states that team members have a tendency to behave, contribute and interrelate with others in a particular way (Belbin, 2012, para. 03). Under the action team roles are the implementer of tasks, the shaper to modify errors and the task completer which will always complete the required tasks on time and all these group work together to achieve a goal. 5 Steps to Improve Children’s Grades Work in teams to achieve more success Main Image Here Image Here Image Here 1 Problem Statement & Proposal 3 Theoretical Application In 3 weeks, I will create an A3-Sized information poster with 5 photos from the internet in English, describing how exam failingchildren (Talemwa, 2010) from 10-12 years in northern Uganda (Makuma & Mukama, 2012)can work in teams (Belbin, 2012) for 10 months to improve their final PLE (primary leaving examination) grades. Complex mathematics and science question should be tackled as a team. Solution - using other channels of distribution like the local council representatives according to six thinking hat theory were the green hat represents creativity(De Bono, 1985). • The ministry of education may not support us with required funds. Solution - looking for other investors. • Individualistic cultures; Some schools give priority to individual values and may discourage team work. Solution - explaining the benefits of teams over working individually. This is explained in according to the cultural dimension theory (Hosfede, 1970, para. 15). Implementation Strategy & Timeline Thesis Statement • After the design of the poster following the above procedures, the following distribution strategy will be used in a month. • Identifying all the primary schools in Northern Uganda with the help of Region Head of schools. • Sourcing the distribution fund from the Ministry of Education and Sports by acknowledging their effort on the poster. • Printing multiple copies of the poster using the funds sourced for distribution with the help of a specialized printing advisor • Distribution of the poster to all the primary schools with the help of the Local council offices to ease access of the schools. About the Author Yahya Bakhit is a full scholar at Albukhary International University in Malaysia, majoring in Bachelor of Business Administration. He is motivated to develop this poster in order to improve children’s performance in his home region of Northern Uganda.

5. Application Students can act as a team to achieve higher grades For example the team action role model can be used in establishing team spirit to improve the PLE grades of children in Northern Uganda
