  1. The Energy Which Never Ends ! Use Me !

  2. Energy Crisis is the one of the major issues which influence our lifestyle. Its not pertaining to a particular state or nation, it’s a global issue influencing whole world. Working for a pollution free environment and promoting renewable energies is the responsibility of all.

  3. Why Solar Energy ? • It is a readily available source of energy. • It does not belong to anybody and is, therefore, free. • It is non-polluting and therefore, helps in lessening the greenhouse effect.

  4. India receives solar energy equivalent to over 5000 trillion kWh/year, which is far more than the total energy consumption of the country. Using solar energy effectively will solve our country’s energy problems.

  5. How can I use solar energy effectively?

  6. We are……….. Committee members of Karnataka Energy Development Agency.

  7. Our Goal • Conduct research and design a solar cooker which is energy efficient. How can we best design a solar cooker?

  8. Area of Study • Solar Cooker Material Research • Solar Cooker Design Research

  9. What we did… We studied basic principles and three models to develop an improved solar cooker. Each design has its own advantages and disadvantages. So by considering these three as base we came out with improved design of our vision.

  10. Simple and easy to make Cost is less Can’t utilize more energy. Heat loss is there Box Cooker A solar box cooker is an insulated box with a transparent top and a reflective lid. Advantages Disadvantages

  11. Most of the energy is utilized with more reflectors. Simple and easy to make Heat loss is there Heat storage less Panel Cooker Solar panel cookers have multiple simple reflectors arranged to focus solar radiation onto a covered black pot enclosed in a clear heat-resistant plastic bag or other clear enclosure Advantages Disadvantages

  12. Good energy utilization and focusing Less heat storage area Heat loss Parabolic Cookers Parabolic solar cookers have parabolic reflector arranged to focus solar radiation onto a cooker or food box Advantages Disadvantages

  13. Factors Considered… • Good Materials • Attractive Design & easy to use • Maximum utilization of energy • Minimize heat loss • More heat storage

  14. Reflectors Food Container Glass Solar box Our Design

  15. Howit is Different ? • Glass orientation is very good in such a way that it faces the sun directly and increases heat gain. • Reflectors were used on the top of the box to bounce/ focus additional sun light through the glass and into solar box results in higher cooker temperatures. • To prevent loss of heat via conduction through the bottom of the cooker, the absorber plate is raised from the bottom using small insulating spacers. • Structural and insulating material was used so that the box will have and retain a given shape and form, and be durable over time • Its incorporated all the essential qualities of Box, Panel and Parabolic Cookers.

  16. Special Attraction !!! • Good Heat Gain • Less Heat Loss • More Heat Storage • Structured & Insulated Material • Moisture Barrier • Long Durability • Less Maintenance • Easy to Use

  17. Let us start using effectively what we have …
