  3. What is the history of use? Is it something new? • French ambassador sent tobacco seeds from Brazil to Paris in 1560 • First isolated from the tobacco plant in 1828 by German chemists Posselt and Reimann • First synthesized in 1904 by A. Pictet and Crepieux

What does the drug do to the body? • Gives cancer • Discolors teeth and fingers • Smells • Slow and heavy breathing • Makes you tired • Nicotine causes a short-term increase in blood pressure, heart rate and the flow of blood from the heart • Causes the arteries to narrow • The smoke includes carbon monoxide, which reduces the amount of oxygen the blood can carry, this cobined with nicotine effects, creates an imbalance between the demand of oxygen by the cells and the amount of oxygen the blood can supply • Makes everything taste different • bad teeth, discoloured and aged looking skin

What are the dangers of abuse? • affects the nervous system • cigarettes assist the process of cancer tumors • assist in the loss of appetite, which is bad because you aren’t getting all the nutrients that your body needs and hair loss • affects a persons own image and lifestyle, bad teeth, discolored and aged looking skin • effects on a persons brain and in his or her ability to think and learning abilities • It affects your kidneys and liver
