  3. Classical theory Experiment Numerical study BUCKGROUND 5th Joint Seminar in Tongjin University • The classical theory equation • Experimental investigations Classical equation [Timoshenko;1961] Sensitive to initial geometric imperfections • Numerical study Plots of experimental buckling load of cylindrical shell under axial compression [Weingarten et al., 1965] Only a few research considered the effect of cutouts

  4. Non-linear FEA Experiment RESEACH 5th Joint Seminar in Tongjin University Study of cylindrical shell with circular cutouts under compression • Approaches Non-linear FE analysis MSC. Marc Mentat 2005 Experiment Digital Image Correlation Method

  10. CONCLUTIONS 5th Joint Seminar in Tongjin University • Analytical results showed good correlations both one and two cutouts. While with increment of geometric parameter a, analytical model has a high requirement on the geometric imperfection properties foranalytical simulation. • Experimental buckling loads are also lower than analytical ones because of effect of initial geometric imperfections, Imperfect axial loading and boundary condition. • The circumference displacement dR distributions like an initial geometric imperfections been able to be sensitively measured by DICM. To be precise, the analysis that considers initial geometric imperfectionswill be carried out.
