  1. ASANTE CULTURAL FORUM (ACF) “IT IS ALL ABOUT FUNDING”

  2. REFLECTIONS ON THE FIRST ACF FUNDING: No training on funding application. Submitted with crossed fingers. Overwhelmed after Conditional Grant Offer. Apprehensive about compiling ACF financial projection. Total fear when grant went into the bank account (self doubt).

  3. RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRUSTEES To oversee the management of the grant money. To ensure that the project activities reflect the project aims. To ensure regular updates from the Treasurer . To ensure the funder is updated with project outcome.

  4. INITIAL OBSERVATION How ready was ACF to receive grant money? Responsibility for the Grant Money. Recruitment & management of Volunteers. Future fundraising responsibilities. Did ACF understand Sustainability? How committed to the bigger picture was ACF?

  5. GRANT MANAGEMENT: IS THAT ALL? Objective was to formally set up the organisation with the Grant Money. Setting up formally without good governance and sustainability would result in total collapse. Capacity building in good governance and fundraising were seen as priority areas. Our needs were addressed by GM BME Network & T3SC.

  6. CAPACITY BUILDING IN FUNDRAISING Funding Factor: Beyond Grant (Oldham CVS & T3SC. Making it happen: Sustainable Funding (T3SC). Financial Capacity Building 1: Budgeting Skills (GM BME Net). Financial Capacity Building 2: Basic Book Keeping Skills (GM BME Net). Trade and Marketing for Charities & Community Groups (Training & Support for Services). Developing your fundraising skills: Moving from small grants to larger applications (GM BME Net). Creative Fundraising (GM BME Net). Preparing for Commissioning (GM BME Net).

  7. BENEFITS OF CAPACITY BUILDING Exposure to various ways of fundraising. The myth that funding is only achieved through application is quashed. ACF’s success in securing a grant of £3,000.00 from TMBC for Community Learning in the last 2 months months, is the result of confidence gained through effective training in funding. ACF sees Creative Fundraising as the way forward to ensure sustainability. ACF has established a Fundraising Sub-Group. ACF is planning a Cultural Fundraising Event this summer.

  8. WHAT PART HAS GM BME NETWORK & T3SC PLAYED Understanding the importance of good relationship with funders. Ability to structure and present end ofgrant report to the funder. Exposure to links with external agencies and organisations. Importance of collaboration with other organisations.

  9. CREATIVE FUNDRAISING: WHY? Vision: To raise funds to establish a one-stop-shop: ‘African Emporium’ a centre for skills exchange, cultural exhibition etc. Donor letters: Compiled and ready to go out - Will be tailored to individuals. Cultural Fundraising Event: Summer 2012.
