Reveille / Retreat “Reveille" bugle, trumpet or pipes used to wake up at sunrise derived from the French word for “wake up” Signal for the start of the officaldutyday (AFMAN 36-2203, 7.23) “Retreat” • Two-fold purpose: • signals the end of the official duty day • serves as a ceremony to lower & paying respect to the flag. • First note of retreat, face the flag (if visible) or music and assume the position of parade rest. • End of the music, command attention, present arms • Band plays national anthem
