  1. 1 Peter 2:11-12 11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, 12having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.

  2. Realizing the motivation and impact of good works as a Christian

  3. Titus 3:8- 8This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men. • Titus 3:14- 14And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful.

  4. Why do you do what you do as a Christian? • To go to heaven? • To not go to hell? • To be seen of men? • To be seen by God? • To bear fruit? • To lay up treasure in heaven? Why? • To glorify God? • To please God? • Because you owe the Lord? • Because you love the Lord? • Because men hate you? • Because you love men?

  5. Some challenging questions… • Acts 9:36-39– Will our loss be keenly felt for the reason Tabitha’s loss was? • Romans 13:3– Can we live without fear of the law by virtue of the life we live? • 2 Cor. 9:6-15– Do we consider our abundance as an opportunity to serve others or ourselves? • Phil. 1:3-8– Do we view salvation as a good work done in us by God? • 1 Tim. 5:9-10– Will your life’s works come back to haunt you or help you in your old age?

  6. A few more challenging questions… • 1 Tim. 5:24-25– Do we realize that our good works are as evident as our sins and vice versa? • 2 Tim. 3:16-17– Do we recognize one of the great purposes of Scripture in our life? (cf. Heb. 13:20-21) • Gal. 6:9-10– Do we see the danger of growing wearing in doing good and blessing and do good to all?

  7. A few more challenging questions… • 1 Pet. 2:13-25– Do we appreciate the ability of silencing ignorance by doing good? • 1 Pet. 3:8-12– Do we understand the fact that doing good can impact our communion with God? • Heb. 10:24-25– Do we view our assemblies as an opportunity to stir another up to good works?

  8. 1 Peter 4:19 “Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.” Will you make that commitment now?
