  2. Today’s Agenda • Dr. Kevin Jackson • Vice President for Student Life • Addy Meira • Open Committees • Kerri Bond • QPR Training Sessions for Grad Students • Jeffrey Bilbro • Update on Sustainability Committee • Committee Time

  3. Dr. Kevin Jackson • Dr. Jackson gave each person in the room a note card and told them to write out 3 things that were going good at Baylor, and 3 things that were going poorly at baylor. Then he presented things as he saw them • Going good: • Ken Starr is a great President for this University • Alice Starr is wonderful as well • Fundraising is going great • Research at the university is going to the next level • The BRIC facility is a big step in the right direction. • Rise Up Campaign • An athletic program can bring Baylor to more national standing, in more ways than one. • Needs Improvement: • Safety around campus • Student Safety Taskforce to be started • Infrastructure • Improve classroom space, parking, lab safety. • Funding Model • We’ve come to the end of what just tuition can give us. We need to move beyond tuition and fees to be able to fund more major projects.

  4. Dr. Jackson pt. 2 • Dr. Jackson opened the floor up to the students in the room as he wanted to hear their suggestions. • Good Things: • Math Guy says faculty is good • Addy Miera agrees, the same with her department • Needs Improvement: • Addy Meira wants more technology in classrooms • Casey Petersen sees need for administrative support as she has moved offices so much • Dude: Inclusion of grad students in Baylor Culture • Girl: Funding for events like conferences and research needs to be upped • Carl Aho: Subsidised Health Insurance for Grad Students who aren’t TA’s • Other Girl: Study Space, library should have more space for grad students. • Nick Saterelli: Graduate students should have more discounts on Baylor Dining. • Dr. Jackson noticed a trend in many of these points. Graduate Students who are not TA’s should be viewed equally.

  5. Addy Meira • Update on TLTC Committee • Academia.edu • Academy for Teaching & Learning. • Development content on iTunesU • Baylor is a member of three faculty development organizations: • Texas Faculty Development Consortium • New Media Consortium (NMC) • Educause Learning Initiative (ELI). c) BU Electronic Libraries. • New BearCat Plus is the default search with Aqua Browser. Searches include electronic databases. • Access to resources via smart phone: m.baylor.edu is Baylor’s mobile site; mlib.baylor.edu site for information that is handy but not available by BearCat Plus. • Classroom upgrades with high definition videoconferencing • Bearspace quota increased to 5GB for everyone. • Classroom clickers – doubled the number of students using them (25% - 3,800-4,000) for polling, class attendance, and multiple choice questions. • Digitization – Lariat, Roundup, maps of Civil War are being digitized. • The Study Commons in Moody Library has been completed. • Baylor contracted with TaskStream, a private company, to use its online learning outcomes management systems for a pilot with several schools, departments, and Institutional Effectiveness. • WordPress provides blog support for students, who must pay for their domains. The goal is blogs for different classes with single access and service
