  3. Brightsource Concentrated Solar Power Technologies SOLAR RECEIVER / BOILER AIR-COOLED CONDENSER AUXILIARY GAS-FIRED BOILER HELIOSTATS OPTIMIZATION / CONTROL SOFTWARE STORAGE TURBINE

  4. Presentation Outline Technology overview Current projects Flux measurements with thermographic camera

  5. Coalinga • EOR-Enhanced Oil Recovery • 4K HL 29MW Thermal • Operational for 2 years

  6. Ivanpah: World’s Largest Solar Thermal Project • 3 Solar Fields. • 170K HL 392MW electrical • Operational for 2 months

  7. Ashalim • 1 Solar Field. • 50K HL 121MW electrical • Operational within 2.5 years

  8. Presentation Outline Technology overview Current projects Flux measurements with thermographic camera

  9. Receiver Radiative Flux Solar Spectrum radiation from Solar Field absorbed by receiver (high absorptivity) Black Body radiation, radiated by receiver (high emissivity)

  10. IR accuracies difficulties • Emissivity variations. • Changing atmospheric conditions. ( humidity+ visibility) • Camera in outdoor environment.

  11. Thermodynamic model Net Heat transfer rate Process data IR camera (ε, ambient T, wind)

  12. Thermodynamic model Known material and geometry Measured offline in a lab Heat Transfer Coefficient. fluid status dependent

  13. Flux calculation process

  14. Flux calculation results Measured FluxExpected Flux

  15. Additional IR uses • the IR camera has a constant view of all the boiler. Can detect process problems Before drum circulation After drum circulation

  16. Conclusion the IR cameras are a critical component in the operation of the Concentrated Solar Power Fields as part of the Flux management of the Solar Field.
